KONY 2012 is a campaign for the leader of the LRA (Lords Resistance Army) Joseph Kony. It isn't to elect him into anything, or to give him anything Except a life of jail time for his crimes. The campaign is to 'Make Kony Famous' around the world and make him known to our worlds leaders so we can help bring him down. For over 20 years Joseph Kony has been abducting children in Uganda and surrounding areas, forcing them to become soldiers in his army. The boys are put in the LRA and the girls are used as sex slaves. Why wouldn't they just run away? Kony makes them mutilate or even kill their families so they have nothing to run back to. They have no choice but to be in the army. A small non-profit group called The Invisible Children was started about 10 years ago to raise awareness and help bring him down. This is the year for that. So far they're doing a good job getting his name out there. They had two big videos put out, calling out to all people that may want to help getting his name out there using their pages on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Myspace (if anyone uses that anymore) and any other social network. They made up action kits equipped with posters, a button, two KONY bracelets, bumper stickers, a shirt, and a booklet with information about Kony and their goal. This April 20th was called 'Cover the Night' where as soon as night falls everyone who had posters, stickers, stencils, and yard signs went out to cover their town in KONY 2012 posters. A few friends from my town and I put together a Facebook page when the video was first released to bring people together for this event. It was called 'Cover The Night; Glenwood Springs'. We went out at Midnight on April 20th with our posters and whatever else we had, and tried to cover as much as we could without getting into trouble with the police. I wish we would have taken pictures because it was so much fun going out and doing something not just for our community, but for another country that needs the help. I'm hoping that our work does pay off and Kony is brought to justice because we can all agree that no child should ever have to go through that, and even without the resources in their country the world should come together and make a difference. Obama has already sent soldiers over to help the Ugandan Army with tracking Kony down. Joseph Kony is aware that we are looking for him, and we're going to find him! This is a huge part of history, and the first time something has been made so big because of social networking. I am so glad that I could be apart of this event and I hope that throughout the year more and more kids, parents, teachers, workers, and governors get involved to help bring Joseph Kony to justice. Campaign ends DECEMBER 31ST 2012!Get involved, watch the videos, sign the pledge, SPREAD THE WORD! www.kony2012.com www.invisiblechildren.com
